In this course students will learn Basic Peripheral IV Therapy, Insertion and Standards of Practice. This is a continuing education course offered to nurses, nursing/medical students, EMT or any healthcare provider looking to refresh or learn more about Infusion Therapy. Our 12 hour IV Therapy Program is comprised 7 hours of didactic learning available through our Pedagogy Continuing Nurse Education Platform, which is then followed by a 4-hour hands on simulated IV Skills Lab. Participants must provide proof of healthcare profession. Nurses will be awarded 7 CE credits after completion of course.
Total cost of course is $350.
This is a hybrid course, part 1 will be taken online (7 hours) print your certificate and bring to class with you and we will begin the hands-on practice at one of the classes listed below.
***Please make your schedule available for the course date you signed up for, if you cancel your in-person course you will only have one opportunity (30 days) to reschedule to the next class. ***
This course has been designed to provide basic conceptual and operational knowledge to healthcare clinicians who have had limited exposure to infusion therapy principles and practice. As the science of infusion therapy advances and technology expands, it is imperative that all healthcare clinicians and nurses practicing infusion therapy remain current in their knowledge of infusion therapies, principles, techniques, equipment and the latest in infusion evidence-based practices.
For help finding the right IV education course(s) for the state in which you practice, see the State Boards of Nursing guide. This course alone does not fulfill what most state Boards of Nursing require for “IV education” or “IV certification” requirements.
Objectives
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
- List specific measures that will protect against malpractice.
- Identify infusion related complications, causes and appropriate treatment.
- Demonstrate the correct calculation of an IV flow rate.
- Identify methods of infection control related to IV therapy.
- List the components of accurate and complete documentation of IV procedures and complications.
- Demonstrate IV and Infusion related procedures.
